One.61 is certified by the State of Florida to instruct and in turn certify Hotel employees in Human Trafficking Awareness.
In 2019, the Florida Legislature passed and Governor Ron DeSantis signed into law new human trafficking legislation affecting lodging operators. Section 509.096, florida statutes, includes mandatory annual human trafficking awareness training for lodging employees who perform housekeeping duties or work at the front desk or reception areas. Prudent lodging operators will also train their other guest interaction positions, including concierge, bell staff, valet, and others.
In addition to our comprehensive curriculum, it’s worth noting that our training is meticulously crafted to address the specific needs and challenges faced within the hospitality industry, particularly within hotels. Throughout the sessions, participants will engage with real-life case studies and scenarios drawn from hotel environments, providing practical insights and strategies for effective response.
Human Trafficking is a scourge. The state of Florida in number 3 in the U.S. on the list of reported incidents, and hotels often figure in this sad statistic. Accordingly, we at One.61 believe strongly that in-person, classroom instruction from our experience cadre is the best way for hotels to be in compliance with the law, and, potentially, reduce liability. We teach in English and Spanish. Staff are presented with a certification diploma upon completion of our instruction. Employees may come to our regularly scheduled classes in the Brickell neighborhood of Miami, or alternatively, One.61 can take our instruction of the road and use your hotel as classroom. We can conduct several classes per day to accommodate hotel shift changes.
